The witches of Easter

Based on nordic folklore.

EASTER!
When most people think about it today they think about bunnies and chocolate eggs but in the old days people had a way darker look at it.
It was one of the times of the year when witches where mostly active.
On Skär Torsdag =Maundy Thursday they flew to and island called Blåkulla aka Blå Jungfrun.
And had their sabbath with the Devil and returned to their homes on Sunday morning.
People locked up their tools and cattle so the witches wouldn't steal and fly away on them.
They could even take a person and use him/her as an flying equipment so it was good to stay indoors or at least be careful during Easter time.
On their way to the sabbath they often kidnapped a child that they later turned in to a servant of Satan.
Some people didn't dare to cook food because the smoke from the chimneys could show the witches where they lived.
At the sabbath they ate frogs,toads,snakes and lizards while satan was under the table and laughed so entire Blåkulla shaked.
The place was lighted by candles that was shoved in women's vaginas and the fires of Hell that came through a hole in the ground where you could see the souls of the tormented.
Then they danced,married several persons at the same time and had sex with Satan and his devils.
Blåkulla played a large role during the witch-hunts between 1492 and 1704 where children accused people around them for taking them to Blåkulla, even members of their own family and the court blindly believed in them.
Over 400 where executed in Sweden.
Even after the witch-hunts where over people still believed in them and the last swedish witch-hysteria took place in Dalarna in 1858.

Today it's an Easter tradition (especially in Sweden and Finland ) to decorate with witches and black cats.
Kids also dresses up as PÅSKKÄRRINGAR=EASTER HAGS/WITCHES and go goes from door to door and gets candy from the people who lives there.
It's almost like HALLOWEEN but it's not Trick or Treat but more Giving and Receiving.
The children say GLAD PÅSK=HAPPY EASTER,give hand made easter cards or some other hand made stuff and some times they sing songs
ands then they get candy for it.
Another tradition is to make large bone fires that is called PÅSKELDAR=EASTER FIRES.
In the old days they where meant to scare away the witches.

Apart from Easter the witches also had their sabbath on Valborg=Walpurgis night on 30th April or 1st of May.
